Black Widow II – Original Airbrush Painting | 12" x 18" | Airbrush Art Circus 2019
A striking combination of dark realism, metallic reflections, and custom automotive painting techniques, Black Widow II is a one-of-a-kind original airbrush painting by professional artist Scott MacKay, created live during the 2019 Airbrush Art Circus event.
This painting represents the second design in Scott's ongoing Black Widow series, exploring the beauty, danger, and intricate details of one of nature's most recognizable spiders.
Featuring a dramatic black widow perched on a dark web, the artwork plays with subtle lighting, deep shadows, and carefully placed chrome reflections to create depth and dimension within an almost entirely black composition.
One of the standout details is the spider's iconic red hourglass marking, created using transparent candy red applied over a specialty chrome paint. This technique produces a brilliant metallic red effect that reflects light and changes in intensity depending on the viewing angle and surrounding lighting.
Subtle chrome highlights throughout the spider and web add another layer of realism, allowing the dark surfaces to come alive as light moves across the painting.
Created on a 12" x 18" solid aluminum panel, 0.080" thick, the artwork is finished in a professional show-quality high-gloss clearcoat, enhancing the deep blacks, reflective details, and overall depth while providing a durable automotive-grade finish.
