SHHHH! – Original Custom Airbrush Painting | 20" x 20" | SEMA 2024
SHHHH! – Original Custom Airbrush Painting | 20" x 20" | SEMA 2024
A bold fusion of dark beauty, surrealism, and traditional Lowrider-inspired custom painting, SHHHH! is a one-of-a-kind original artwork by professional airbrush artist Scott MacKay, created for the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas and displayed at the Anest Iwata booth.
This striking painting features a hauntingly beautiful female portrait transitioning into skeletal features, with a finger pressed against her lips in a silent gesture. The central illustration is framed by an elaborate, symmetrical Lowrider-style panel design featuring sweeping geometric shapes, intricate linework, layered textures, and vibrant purple and magenta tones.
Originally developed from Scott's smaller 12" x 18" concept painting of the same name, this larger 20" x 20" SEMA showpiece takes the original illustration to an entirely new level, combining realistic portraiture with the depth, color, and complexity of custom automotive panel painting.
The artwork begins with a metallic silver basecoat, followed by layers of transparent candy purple and magenta that allow the metallic particles beneath to reflect through the color. Rich violet shading, brilliant pink candy fades, and carefully placed pearl accents create a striking contrast between the central portrait and the surrounding geometric graphics.
The symmetrical Lowrider-inspired panels feature multiple layers of color, dimensional borders, subtle textures, and bright magenta highlights that give the illusion of illuminated panels. The contrast between the soft, organic details of the portrait and the sharp, structured panel graphics creates a unique balance of fine art and custom automotive styling.
Painted on a 20" x 20" aluminum composite panel, the entire piece was meticulously finished with a professional show-quality high-gloss clearcoat, enhancing the metallic sparkle, transparent candy colors, and pearl effects while giving the artwork a deep, glass-like finish.

From Concept to SEMA Showpiece
What began as a smaller portrait study evolved into an elaborate custom-painted showpiece. The original Shhhh painting established the haunting female and skeletal imagery, while this larger version introduced an entirely new dimension through its bold geometric panel design, vibrant candy colors, and metallic finishes.
The finished artwork showcases Scott's background in both fine art airbrushing and custom automotive painting, bringing together two distinct disciplines in a single composition.
The transparent candy colors, metallic silver base, and pearl accents interact with the surrounding light, creating a depth and brilliance that photographs simply cannot fully capture.
